copper penny 6/02 - 6/10
penny went at her own pace, slowly - except when it was time to eat of course.  her loves were her froggie, and sunning her belly.  she never had a yard of her own in milwaukee, so may there be endless expanses of leash-free grass available now.  she came here to live a life of leisure, after being the kid who got picked on, only to end up with two obnoxious little brothers.  she certainly loved her woubie d. though.  when she was having one of her bad days, he would curl up in the crate with her and snuggle.

you are loved.
ace (aka acey, piggy, chunky monkey, momma's boy)
american bulldog
i'm acey, and i love my momma.  my momma left me once, i think just to the bathroom, i screamed.  i follow my momma everywhere.  i ride next to my momma in the car.  i snuggle with my momma on the couch.  when my snoring wakes me up, sometimes i lay awake and watch my momma sleep.  i love tennis balls, but not as much as i love my momma. my momma said i am a big inspiration for native dogg since i like my house better than any other place, i think because it smells like my momma. i love my momma.

woubie d. (aka super woubie, woubster, wouberino, the woubinator, woubs, kujo, stewie)
grade 'a' adorable or a cockingrottskihua
they don't get any cuter than me, am i right ladies?!  the woubinator here. i write my own ticket and plot my own course.  at a chiseled 9 pounds, shaggy brown hair with black low-lights, and a pair of white socks that drive the women wild, i am the ultimate package.  haven't met a lead i couldn't chew through, nor a bone i couldn't file down to nothin in minutes.  i also have a hardcore sock habit.  i fear rehab is in my very near future.  my ma said i helped with native dogg cause i couldn't make it all day without a pee break.  whatever, i pee where i want, when i want.
big man 10/02 - 7/09
a misunderstood gentleman, big man knew how to treat a lady.  always with a skip in his step and a nibble on a sleeve. larger than life, he overcame early adversity and grew into a gallant knight.  a little nuzzle under the arm, less you forget he was there, or a paw to the leg, big man knew he deserved lots of love, and pray he left this place fulfilled.

you are missed every single day.
cleo 1/04 - 1/08
a true diva, with beauty on the inside and out. knew what she wanted, how she wanted it, and when she felt she deserved it. never met a man she wouldn't flirt with. she was the first true and unconditional love. a passion for the betterment of animals grew from her lessons.

your presence is still felt sweet baby girl.
kerry dawson (aka the mom)
as a dog lover and animal advocate, i am keenly aware of a need for animal kid support.  as a business woman, working long hours, i found it difficult to care for my kids in the way i knew they deserved.  it was always seemingly last minute, out of the way, trips for that "special" food that one just can't grab at the grocery store - that of course because of dietary requirements meant to reduce the explosive midday great dane diarrhea.  or fighting the rest of the free world to get a vet appointment on a saturday morning - before noon, so i didn't have to take time off work. there was always skipping lunch to run home for a baby with a teeny tiny bladder. the true pressure cooker of finding family, or friends, to impose the brood upon when i had to leave them for the day or overnight - need i remind you acey is a screamer.
all i wanted was to love them, play in the park, fill their bowls with healthy food and bottled water - oh yes, i do mean straight from culligan water thanks to miss penny, then settle in for quality snuggle time.  the life of a milk bone mom began to appear before me as a series of stresses.  that's when the decision to help families just like mine became the mission.
your kids, no matter the species, are as important to me as they are to you. their health, stress, daily care should be one of the last things on your worry list.  i invite you to become a native dogg, when life as a milk bone mom or dad becomes a series of memories instead of stresses.

basset hound
i am a man riddled with emotion, you just can’t see it in my face. some of my numerous loves include walks (if they don’t last longer than a block), balls (if i don’t have to chase them), bones (if there’s a good place to bury them), and oh yeah anything with a scent.  my hobbies include biting in the general direction of flies, whining for no reason as if i were being led to slaughter, and putting my “tough face” on to scare the neighborhood kids. yes, i am the whole package, moody, picky, drooly, lazy, husky (not fat), and I’m a foot guy. i rule period. peace.

alice--basset hound (granddog), is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet but has  perpetual teenager attitude about everything. when moving her over to make room on the couch for a human, she actually rolled her eyes and huffed about it. best trick: "play dead like a possum...good girl!!!" nicknames: arice, caramel alice, hounddog. (alice also has a few other nicknames not suitable for print). she is currently residing with her other gramma gail.

lucy-- beagle-mix mutt (granddog), is the happiest dog in the world except during inclement weather when you will find her hiding and vibrating. must have some swine in her genes as she snorts better than most piglets we know. best tricks: forcasting rain and doing the "stupid dance" (complete with snorts). nicknames: piglet, john malan and goose!! (das a niiice goose!!)

gizmoe--yorkshire terrier, is just a little brat (youngest child syndrome??). although he has become more of a "real dog" since his sisters moved in, you still know whos poop is behind the couch. when he is naughty, we tell him he better watch out or we will get him a purse to ride around in. best trick: um, i don't really think he knows any tricks. nicknames: g-dog, jizz-moe and the amazing flying wallenda dog.

magee (aka bubby, boobila kitty, kitty face, kitty)
hi, my name is magee and i was adopted by my mom and dad (who live in sin) when i was about 8 months old.  i shudder when i think about my life before i met them and before my dad bought me my very own water fountain.  now i am a completely spoiled mama's boy who tries to beat mom to the bathroom every morning so i might get to drink water from the faucet! i'm a good sport and put up with a lot of crap like these elf ears, but i also get rewarded with treats and sometimes tuna.  yeah, it's a hard life, but again, i do have my own water fountain.

- parents nikki & mike (aka momma & dad)
hi – i’m harper!
my family and i live in mazomanie, wi where there’s lots of room to run and play.  i especially love romping in the pasture and chasing my brother (dane – 9 yrs old) and sister (grace – 10 yrs old).  they may be human but they can run pretty fast.  i love ice cubes and bison bones although mom won’t let me bring them on the bed – bummer.  i’m only 10-months old but am growing bigger everyday – pretty soon mom and dad will need to get me my own king-sized bed where i can lounge and chew on all my toys.  my life is pretty amazing and i especially love play dates with my cousin pearl from milwaukee.

come play with me anytime!

ellie - the elegant coonhound
emma - 'the queen' english pointer
ever heard a coonhound sing?  ellie can teach your dog how to really tune it up right!  we don't need a door bell at our house.  a treat vacuum and a couch hog, there's not a space that she doesn't know how to lay down in.  as for emma, every walk is a hunt and when she sees some fur in the neighborhood, you should see her point.  a thing of beauty!  a perpendicular sleeper that loves to be near me wherever i go in the house.  perhaps you'll witness our unique 'heads out the same car window' routine some day.

"if there is a heaven, it's certain our animals are to be there. their lives become so interwoven with our own, it would take more than an archangel to untangle them."  ~ poet pam brown
with a heavy heart, i write to let you know that we said goodbye to hannah late last night.  i was blessed with her loyal companionship and uncomplicated devotion for nearly 14 years.  she will be missed terribly.

frankie (aka francis xavier, booger, mini monkey)
american bulldog boxer mix
hi everybody!  my name is frankie and i already love you!  as soon as i see you my ears go back, my bum starts to wiggle, then it's time to snuggle.  i wrassle all the time with my big brother acey, he's also my favorite thing to lay on.  mom used to take woubie d and me to the dogpark all the time, but i eat EVERYTHING if you know what i mean.  woubie's my ears there, you see i'm a little deaf.  i'm super smart though.  i already know lots of hand signals.
HAWS currently has lots of guinea pigs available for adoption:  Cocoa, Charlie, Nugget (pictured right), Sweetie Pie, William (pictured left) and Marvin, just to name a few.  These fun and fuzzy friends are looking for homes where they can be themselves - which means not being a bother when they're up all night (guinea pigs are a nocturnal species) and someone who'll listen when they've got something to say!
"Thank you so much!!!!! I really appreciate your help and I'm so grateful we found you" - Biaka's mom
"Thanks for the last minute service on a Sunday. It is much appreciated" - Couches' dad
"We are so pleased with your service and cannot believe we've gone 8 years without it!" - Tucker's, Murray's, & Maddie's mom
hi! i'm norman, this is my dog pearl. the other kitty that owned her went to kitty heaven. pearl needed a new owner, she was pretty lonely. that's how i came into the picture. pearl's alright, for a dog. she always tries to sniff me, and right before my person took this picture, she licked my head to much i had to be toweled off. i consider myself to be a clean cat, but apparently i missed a spot. i like my new pet overall. she keeps me entertained, i have fun pretending like i am going to eat her food when it's dinner time. truth is, her food is nothing compared to my fancy feast. (please disregard the corona, it's my dad's. he says mommie makes him wanna drink).
